Porte Maillot is one of the key gateways into Paris, located in the 17th arrondissement, at the western end of the Avenue de la Grande Armée. It serves as a major traffic and transport hub:

- Originally, Porte Maillot was one of the gates in the Thiers Wall, constructed in the 19th century to protect Paris. The wall was later demolished, but the name "Porte Maillot" remained as a reminder of its historical significance.
- The gate was named after a local innkeeper, Pierre Maillot, whose tavern was located near the gate in the early 19th century.
