Joomla
Joomla is a free and open-source Content Management System (CMS) for publishing content on the World Wide Web and intranets. It is built on a Model-View-Controller (MVC) web application framework, which can be used independently of the CMS.
History
- Origin: Joomla was created in August 2005 by the developers of Mambo, following a fork from Mambo due to disagreements within the Mambo team over the management of the project. This fork led to the formation of Open Source Matters, the non-profit organization behind Joomla.
- First Release: The first version of Joomla, 1.0, was released on September 16, 2005.
- Development Milestones:
- Joomla 1.5, released in January 2008, introduced a new framework and more robust development practices.
- Joomla 2.5, launched in January 2012, focused on usability, with a streamlined interface and better security features.
- Joomla 3.x series, starting with 3.0 in September 2012, brought improvements in performance, security, and user experience.
- Joomla 4.0, released in August 2021, provided a major overhaul with improvements in the core system, security enhancements, and a new user interface.
